INFO: He is from Weilheim, and he used to play guitar and sing in Martin Gretschmann’s very
first band “Toxic“ – today, the man on the Korg MS10 in Console’s live band is one of the most popular tech-house djs from southern Germany.
Axel Fischer aka FC Shuttle not only djs after Console shows throughout Europe but is
also a resident dj in two of Munich’s hippest clubs: in Harry Klein and Registratur.
Before that, he used to be behind the decks in the legendary Ultraschall Club –
mostly together with Hometrainer (the electronic act of Console live band’s bass
player Michael Schwaiger). Their claim to fame: Hometrainer plays live and FC
Shuttle mixes into the live set from the decks. Hometrainer takes over again using
the beats from the Shuttle mix and rocks on. Fucking brilliant! Ask the crowd
at Nitsa/Barcelona, Batofar/Paris, or Rohstofflager/Zürich. Fantastic! Anyone who
touches down at a night with FC Shuttle can expect poppy, minimal tech-house.

INFO: The Projetct Guitar is dedicated to the sound of the guitar. Until now Lueckner released: “Sunkissed” (My Bloody Valentine- Hommage on Morr Music, 2003), the Japan-only-album "Honeysky" (Interpretation of Country guitars and Bluegrass Banjo Hilibilly attacks, Third Ear 2004), “Saltykisses” (even more shoegazer, Third Ear 2006) and "Tokyo" (with the sound of Koto and Pipa guitars – a homage to Tokyo, onitor 2006).
And now “Dealin with Signal + Noise“. Lueckner keeps on going with his recently, new open working attitude. On 4 tracks of the album he cooperates with the Japanese Singer Ayako Akashiba (who also worked with him on all recent Guitar albums), and on 3 tracks he worked with the American guitar band Voyager One (Seattle). Its obvious what this means: With his new album, Guitar is going back more in the direction of psychdelic guitar-sound. Or better said: This is a Sea of Sound. The Sound-Sea is wilder again, something really heavy – but between the storm of noise and feedback you could always hear the sirenes. But don´t be afraid, the fishers around will not be killed and nobody will get fixed to the boat. This storm will end in a good way. And this message is coming from someone who knows very well that life without storms is not worth a penny.

INFO: Spain's Wagon Cookin with their new album - a double CD that shows the duo's different faces. On one hand a fusion of jazz, soul, latin, brazil, funk and house. And on the other hand some pushing club bangers, electronic disco dubs that will satisfy every state of the art DJ. Wagon Cookin was born from the deep passion of two brothers for good music and delicious food. Besides their affections Javier and Luis Garayalde share also the experience of living together in a genuine railway wagon which once ran on the great Trans-Eurpope-Express at the beginning of the 20th century and now is situated near Madrid in the foothills of Sierra De Gredos. Thus originates the name Wagon Cookin! Enjoying a musical education at the conservatory from childhood on, both are skilled musicians playing several instruments like piano, banjo, double bass, fagot, drums and percussion. Along with their father, the scholar and saxophone player Javier Garayalde, they have been part of various jazz bands before developing an interest in electronic music, acid jazz and house in the 1990s.

Digitalism also have remixed tracks for Tom Vek, The Futureheads, Daft Punk, Tiga, Klaxons, Depeche Mode, Cut Copy and many others, including a re-edit of Fire in Cairo by The Cure (entitled Digitalism in Cairo). Their tracks and remixes are played by DJs such as Erol Alkan, 2 Many DJ's, Boys Noize and Justice.

INFO: Songwriter Jon Bernson has relatives who are fossil hunters by trade. At his day job, he teaches DJ's how to sample and dig for vinyl. He named Ray's Vast Basement after an imaginary cave and made two albums about its' 100 million year history. The list goes on. He has an eye for unrealized possibilities from the past and keeps a machine in the cave to translate them into musical predictions.

The latest eureka began when the Actors Theatre of San Francisco asked Bernson to write and perform music for John Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men'. Three months later, he had a songtrack in place that gave voice to characters from across the Steinbeck catalogue and staked out a new forecast for Ray's Vast Basement. Over the next sixteen weeks, the band performed their cinematic folk to pin-drop audiences and seismic applause.

When the show closed, a natural momentum carried them into the studio. Songs were recorded, but before the album could be finished, their studio flooded. Though the tapes remained dry, few instruments were spared. A year later, the studio rebuilt, Ray's Vast Basement returned with a backlog of sonic ideas. Only the best tracks were kept, new parts emerged, a process of emotional archaeology began that unearthed layer after layer of music.

The result is a blend of obsessive songsmithing, acoustic rhythm loops, vivid melodies, kaleidoscope vocals, off-kilter arrangements and odd soundscapes. Folkish experiments appear throughout the album, beside unrepeatable live moments and patient studio soundcraft. 'Starvation Under Orange Trees' still contains the refugees of Steinbeck's shantytowns, but reincarnated in dustbowls of the future..

The song is written from the perspective of murderer John Bellingham whilst the accompanying track, 'I am Murdered', is sung from that of Spencer himself. Both tracks were produced by the band late 2006 in the first recording session for their forthcoming debut album. 'Spencer Perceval' is a colossal and beautiful piece of music, setting out the stall for this strangely unique band in the year to come.

INFO: Crisp, polished, and incisive in a Neil Finn-ish sort of way, "We Are Waves" alternates itchy, restrained verses with a gorgeous, crashing-to-the-shore sort of chorus. And yet--if I may stretch the metaphor to the breaking point, as it were--much the way a crashing wave is simultaneously composed of the water being pulled back to sea, so do I hear in the chorus an engaging sort of counter-movement that gives the song extra depth and presence. What I'm talking about in particular is the way the chorus leads with a straightforward A major chord but then, even as the melody takes that engaging leap up, from the fourth to the seventh note (0:56), the chords retreat from the plain power chords one might expect into something more complex (perhaps suspended?; listen at 0:58, on the words "open sea"); listen further to how the chords take two more unexpected steps before finding A major again. The chorus might have been blandly catchier without the subtle complications, but it's richer and more gratifying with them.

The Salute released a one off limited edtion EP for Best Before Records in late 2004 called "Suck It Up Buttercup". Since then the band have been hibernating in the studio with hot-shot engineer Gareth Parton (The Beta Band, The Go Team, The Pipettes, Mojave3) and producer Pritpal Soor creating their opus. The set of 11 songs tries to encapsulate togetherness, loneliness, love and lost loves, surfing, partying, wanderlust, home-cookin, beaches, fields, stars and bars.
